Frequently Asked Questions

  • Springbank Psychology provides compassionate, evidence-based support for children, teens, and adults dealing with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, low self-esteem, stress, ADHD, autism, behavioral challenges, and life transitions. They also offer specialized treatment for OCD, PTSD, chronic pain, internet dependency, bullying, and anger management.

In addition to therapy, the clinic provides comprehensive assessment services including psycho-educational assessments, ADHD and autism evaluations, and giftedness testing to help guide treatment, school planning, and personal development.

  • Therapy may be right for you if you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or are struggling with emotional, behavioral, or relationship issues that are affecting your daily life. If you’re dealing with challenges like anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, trauma, stress, grief, or difficulties at school, work, or home, therapy can offer a safe and supportive space to gain insight, build coping strategies, and improve your overall well-being.

You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many people seek counselling for personal growth, self-understanding, or navigating life transitions. If you're unsure, a first session can help you explore whether therapy feels like the right fit.

  • We offer a wide range of evidence-based therapies tailored to individual needs. These include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based approaches, solution-focused therapy, and trauma-focused treatments such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and Feeling-State Trauma Therapy (FJ-TTT).

We also provide equine-assisted therapy, play therapy, parent-child interaction therapy, and art-based approaches, depending on the age and needs of the client. Therapy is always customized to fit your goals, preferences, and comfort.

  • In your first session at Springbank Psychology, you can expect a warm, respectful, and confidential environment where your therapist will begin to get to know you and understand what brought you to therapy. They’ll ask about your current concerns, relevant background, and what goals you’d like to work toward. This session is also a chance for you to ask questions, learn about your therapist’s approach, and decide if the fit feels right.

For children or teens, the session may include parents to gather important context and collaboratively plan next steps. Overall, the first session is about building connection and setting a foundation for your therapeutic journey.

  • At Springbank Psychology, individual therapy sessions typically last 50 minutes, which is standard for most psychological practices.

Assessment sessions or sessions involving children and families may vary slightly in length depending on the nature of the service being provided. Your therapist will let you know in advance if a longer session is recommended.

  • Springbank Psychology offers both in-person and online therapy (teletherapy) to ensure flexibility and accessibility for clients. This allows you to choose the format that best fits your comfort, lifestyle, and therapeutic needs.

However, it's important to note that not all services are suitable for virtual delivery. For example, comprehensive assessments typically require in-person appointments for accuracy and effectiveness. On the other hand, services like parent feedback sessions, follow-up consultations, and ongoing therapy can often be conducted effectively through secure virtual platforms.

Your therapist will help determine the most appropriate format based on your individual situation.
